Many airlines and tourist locations now demand documentation of a negative PCR COVID-19 test to receive a boarding permit before issuing the ticket. If you plan a vacation, remain up to date on the most recent regulations to avoid being turned away at the airport.

When travelling to most countries like Dubai requiring testing, the basic rule is to present documentation of a negative COVID test within 72 hours after your departure. When a PCR test is particularly requested, other destinations may accept a quick COVID test as evidence in different situations.

What is PCR Testing?

The PCR test is the gold standard for COVID-19 detection. PCR testing is the most reliable method for identifying COVID-19 infection if you have been exposed to it or have symptoms. While some people prefer to get tested, the government requires it in other circumstances.

A PCR test may be required before medical treatment, returning to work following illness, or leaving quarantine. The COVID-19 PCR test and travel immunization are needed in certain places.

Importance of PCR Test while Travelling

Airlines and geographic locations subject to COVID testing or a statutory quarantine time are constantly being added to and removed from the list. When travelling for personal or business reasons, the most reliable way to determine whether you require a test is to check with health officials in the area where you will be travelling to review the current policy at least three weeks before departure.

Here are a few things to keep in mind while travelling to COVID-19 testing sites.

  • Depending on the location, certain tests must be conducted within a specific number of days before entry; thus, more than a few weeks old tests may not be acceptable.
  • Many locations and airlines will only accept the PCR test and not the Rapid test.
  • It is recommended that you visit the airline’s website at least three weeks before your scheduled flight. Carriers have a wide range of policies on which tests they will accept.
  • Even if you get a negative PCR test, specific locations need you to stay in a required quarantine for two weeks after you arrive.

Requirements for all Dubai Travellers

From February 26, 2022, travellers from all nations (GCC included) must meet one of the conditions listed below.

  • Present a valid vaccination certificate (s) with a QR code showing that the WHO or the UAE has completely immunized the traveller.
  • Present a certified Negative Covid19 Test certificate issued within 48 hours of sample collection by an authorized health care provider, with a QR code.
  • Present a valid medical certificate issued by the competent authorities stating that the passenger has recovered from Coronavirus SARS Covid19 within one month.
  • Passengers must take a PCR test upon arrival in Dubai and self-quarantine until the result is negative. If the passenger tests positive, they should follow the Dubai Health Authority’s procedures.
  • PCR testing or immunization certificates must be in English or Arabic and have a QR code. No SMS certificates. COVID19 PCR Test or other language vaccination certificates are accepted if authenticated at the departure point.
